CHOOSING QIGONG PRACTICE FROM THE VOD LIBRARY
/When you first open the YOQI® Video on Demand Library, it can feel overwhelming.
With so many practices available, you might wonder… where do I begin?
In this guide, I’ll show you how to choose the right Qigong practice—so your training becomes clear, effective, and aligned with your goals.
Three Ways to Choose A Qigong Practice
There are three simple ways to choose your Qigong practice:
Align with seasonal rhythms
Address your current state of Qi
Focus on your desired energetic outcome
The YOQI® Library and Resource App are designed to support all three organizing practices by element, function, and season, so your training becomes intuitive and personalized.
ALIGN YOUR ENERGY WITH THE SEASONS
In Qigong, aligning with nature is foundational. Each season carries a specific energetic quality—and when you practice in harmony with it, your results deepen naturally. The Seasonal Series in the VOD library is designed to help you choose from a variety of routines to align with the seasonal energy.
Spring (Wood) — growth, movement, renewal
Summer (Fire) — expression, joy, connection
Late Summer (Earth) — grounding, nourishment
Autumn (Metal) — release, refinement
Winter (Water) — restoration, conservation
If you’re new to working with the Five Elements and seasonal energy, the Qigong Fundamentals Short Course will give you the foundation to understand why these practices work—and how to apply them with confidence.
2. Practice Based on Your Current State of Qi
Even healthy individuals can experience imbalance due to stress, environment, injury, or emotional strain. The key is to recognize your state early and respond appropriately. Within the YOQI® Method, this is guided through the Six Phases of Qi Flow.
Each practice is categorized to help you choose:
Purge — Choose purging if you are excessive. Purging releases tension, stagnation, and emotional buildup
Tonify — Choose tonifying if you are deficient. Tonification will nourish and strengthen Qi
Circulate — Choose circulation if you are balanced or after you have purged and tonified. Circulation will move and transform energy
Complete Routine — integrates all phases
Note that if you are both deficient and in excess, then you can both purge and tonify.
To find out your current energy level, take the Qi Test here and answer the question:
What is the state of my Qi right now?
Should I purge, tonify, circulate, or do a complete routine?
Every YOQI video contains a color-coded spiral that corresponds to its category of Qi:
PURGE
Cleanse Qi
TONIFY
Nourish and build Qi
CIRCULATE + REFINE
COMPLETE ROUTINE
Raise your vibration, refine and maintain Qi
Cleanse, nourish, circulate, refine and store Qi
3. Design Your Practice Through Intention
Qigong is both restorative and generative. Your intention directs your Qi. Begin with this question:
What kind of energy do I want to create in my life?
This could be:
Healing
Emotional balance
Mental clarity
Vitality
Spiritual growth
Or even manifestation (relationships, purpose, abundance)
From this intention, choose practices from the library — or create your own routine — and follow it for 30–108 days. Your goals shape the depth and length of practice. For example, if your goal is health and longevity, the practices and timeline you select will likely be different, and probably longer, than if you want to clear a specific block to reach a goal, which can happen quite quickly. Over time, designing practice becomes intuitive — an ongoing dialogue between awareness and Qi.
If you want support in learning how to work with intention in a precise and effective way, the Qigong Fundamentals Short Course will guide you step-by-step.
Creating Your Weekly Practice
Now we can put all this together and design a training schedule. In general, you can structure your weekly or monthly practice around four key elements:
1. First, choose one focus routine—this is your main practice. It should align with your state of Qi or intention. For example, if you need to purge, choose a practice from the Purge Series. If your intention is healthy digestion, choose a video that focuses on digestive health, such as the Morning Digestion routine. If you want to master a traditional form, it could be the Shi Ba Shi or Yi Jin Jing.
2. Next, add a seasonal routine. This keeps your practice aligned with the energy of nature. If you’re focusing on purging, you can select a seasonal purge flow—like Spring Purge—but you’re also free to explore other seasonal practices in the Seasonal Series.
3. Third, include one essential routine from the YOQI Essentials Series. These are foundational practices we benefit from year-round, such as Six Healing Sounds, Inner Smile, Standing Meditation, or Dantian Activation Breathwork.
4. Finally, add one yin practice from the Meditation Series, Self Care Series, or Yin Yoga Series to balance the more active, yang-based Qigong flows.
Rotate these 4 practices throughout the week and stay consistent. Even practicing 3 times per week can create powerful results. Stay with the same structure for at least 3 weeks, or ideally a full seasonal cycle (3 months).
