ON-LINE TRAINING COURSE FAQ
WHEN CAN I START THE ON-LINE TRAINING COURSE? You can start now! The course is live.
HOW DOES A COURSE WORK?
One YOQI On-line Training Course module is comprised of two parts. Part 1 is the Introduction Series. Part 2 is the Six Phases of Qigong Flow Six Energetic Phases of Qi Flow which are split into six series. Each series contains between 5-10 practice videos, corresponding lectures, audio meditations and a printed manual. This allows you to practice in your home, at your own pace, on your own time.
Part 1: Introduction Series is an in depth study of qigong history, theory and basic practices. This portion of the course is required for all aspiring certified teachers to finish before they attend a live immersion.
One 30-minute private on-line session with Marisa is included in the course.
A YOQI Live Immersion is an in person eight-day retreat training set in beautiful natural locations such as Thailand, Costa Rica, Italy, Netherlands, San Louis Obispo (CA) and San Diego (CA).
CAN I BECOME A CERTIFIED TEACHER BY COMPLETING ALL THE ONLINE MODULES BUT NOT ATTENDING AN IMMERSION TRAINING?
No, to become an Associate Instructor and a Certified Instructor you must attend a live immersion. Anyone is welcome to participate in the live or online trainings separately without becoming certified.
To become a YOQI Qigong Flow Associate Instructor one must attend the Module 1 Live Immersion and complete the reflection assignments including home practice (total 100 hours)
To become a YOQI Qigong Flow Certified Instructor one must attend the Module 1 Live Immersion and complete the Module 1 Online Coursework + 1 video presentation. (total 200 hours)
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE ONE MODULE?
Purchasing one module gives you access to the On-line Teacher Training program for one year from the time of purchase. If you continue from Module 1 to Module 2 you will still have access to Module 1 in the program video playlist library. The suggested time to complete one module is six months to one year. Some people who have more time may complete one module in three months. It takes time to digest and assimilate energy. We do not advocate rushing.
WHAT ARE THE TRAINING HOURS OF THE ONLINE COURSEWORK?
One module contains 7 Series ( Introduction Series + Six Phases) for a total of 50+ video training hours and lecture.
One Online module (50+ hours of instruction & practice) + 8-day live immersion (50+ hours of instruction & practice) is a total of 100+ hours of course work, plus self- practice hours. The suggested study/practice time for each series is one month.
HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO ALLOCATE TO STUDY PER WEEK?
To complete one module in a six-month period, it will take and estimated 3 + hours per week. This could be 30-90 minutes of daily practice and study. It's up to your lifestyle. Practice involves one dynamic yang practice and one seated yin meditation or yin yoga practice, watching lecture, manual study and reflection.
The course is designed in a way that will guide you through the practices. It is not recommended to mix more than four different practices from one series in one week. Choose four videos in a series and stick to them during the week. It's recommended to choose one core practice and do it at least three times per week for three weeks straight and add on other complimentary practices around that core practice throughout the three-week period. This is all explained in the coursework.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY DOCUMENTED HOURS? The On-line training course requires 100 hours of practice per module. These hours can be accrued through the live training (50 hours), on-line training program videos, video library videos, meditations and self-practice. The course provides reflection assignments and home practice assignments that need to be completed to become a certified instructor. To document your hours is simple. Just keep a log of your home practice hours with the date, name of practice and whether it is a video or self-practice on your own (for example: 10/1/2019 1 hour, video Autumn Purge, 10/2/2019 30 minutes, self practice Inner Smile). Turn in this log with the assignments. This is also explained in the course manual.
DO I HAVE TO MAKE A VIDEO TO DOCUMENT MY HOURS? Not to become an Associate Instructor. Yes to become a Certified Instructor.
I AM ALSO TAKING A COURSE WITH ANOTHER QIGONG INSTRUCTOR. CAN I USE THAT COURSE AS DOCUMENTED PRACTICE HOURS? No. The self practice hours for the YOQI program reflect home practice, not group training hours. The reason for self-practice is to master the forms on your own without being dependent upon a video or instructor, so they should include both video practices and self practices without videos. In this way you can learn through your own experience and internal wisdom. You can also take your time and move at your own pace. Also the YOQI program self practice hours are specifically regarding YOQI practices. Although there may be some exercises that are the same or similar between YOQI and other qigong styles or teachers, the hours should reflect YOQI practices.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO ATTEND A FULL IMMERSION TEACHER TRAINING WHERE EVERYTHING IS TAUGHT LIVE? At the moment the immersion trainings are 8 days trainings per module. In the future we may combine modules into longer training periods. All the practices can’t be covered extensively in one 8-Day Immersion. This is why the corresponding On-Line Training Course is designed to support the immersion and to review the practices after the immersion. It is possible to only attend the immersion without the On-Line Course, but studies show that repetition is the best form of learning.
DO I HAVE TO ATTEND ONE LIVE IMMERSION PER MODULE? To become certified, yes
WHY DO I HAVE TO ATTEND THE LIVE IMMERSION TO BECOME A CERTIFIED YOQI INSTRUCTOR?
Qigong is learned through experience. It is important to attend the live immersions to become an instructor because we will do hands on adjustments, qi transmission and partner work. YOQI team instructors are there to give feedback and corrections. Training with a group energy is also different from training alone and for many people can empower their practice and take it to another level.
HOW MANY LIVE IMMERSIONS DO I HAVE TO DO TO COMPLETE A MODULE? I LIVE OUT OF THE COUNTRY, SO IN OTHER WORDS, HOW MANY OVERSEAS TRIPS DO I NEED TO MAKE?
One live immersion per module. That would be one trip per module- totally four trips including the teacher training module.
WHAT IF I ONLY WANT TO TEACH QIGONG FUNDAMENTALS, BUT NOT YOGA?
Once you complete Module 1 and the Module 1 Live Immersion, you will be certified as a YOQI Associate Instructor to teach Qigong Fundamentals. These are only the practices marked as “fundamental practices” in Module 1. Module 2 & 3 are a qigong and yoga fusion, so they are not only yoga. They include more advanced qigong practices not taught in Module 1.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE PRIOR YOGA EXPERIENCE TO TAKE MODULE 2 AND MODULE 3?
I AM ALREADY A CERTIFIED YOGA INSTRUCTOR. DO I NEED TO TAKE MODULE 2 AND MODULE 3?
Yes, YOQI is different from the way Hatha Yoga is traditionally taught and these modules incorporate more advanced qigong practices not taught in Module 1.
DO I NEED TO FINISH ALL THE SERIES IN THE MODULE 1 ONLINE COURSE BEFORE I PARTICIPATE IN THE LIVE IMMERSION? No, but it is highly recommended to complete, at the least, the Introduction practices and the Attune Series portion of the On-Line Training Course. This will take about 1 month to complete.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ASSOCIATE INSTRUCTOR AND A CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR?
A YOQI Associate Instructor can teach Qigong Fundamentals. These are only the practices marked as “fundamental practice” in Module 1. These practices do not include all the practices in Module 1. Some complex M1 practices such as the Hologram Palm Empowerment and Iron Shirt Form need to pass further testing with a Certified YOQI Instructor. The reason behind the Associate Instructor Certification is to encourage new teachers to begin teaching in their local community to gain teaching experience as they progress through Module 2 and 3 to become a fully Certified Instructor. As a YOQI Certified Instructor, you will have passed through the tests during the Teacher Training Live Immersion and can teach all the practices in M1, M2 and M3. As a Certified Instructor there will also be opportunities to teach with Marisa and at international YOQI studios.
CAN I PURCHASE MODULE 1 AND SEE IF I LIKE THE PROCESS AND THEN DECIDE WHETHER TO CONTINUE?
WHAT CREDIBILITY DOES A YOQI CERTIFICATION GIVE ME TO TEACH?
After completion of Module 1, the student will receive an ‘YOQI Qigong Associate Instructor Certification’. This gives them the ability to start teaching Module 1 (Qigong Fundamentals). A Certified YOQI QIgong Instructor has completed more hours of training.
After completion of the course work and live immersion and for all 3 Modules and the final Teacher Training Immersion, the teacher in training will be a ‘350 Hour YOQI Certified Instructor’. Combining yoga and qigong makes qigong more accessible and can be easily integrated into yoga studios which gives you a greater opportunity of locations to teach at.
We are currently working on forming the Qigong Healing Alliance, a nonprofit association representing the qigong community to which you will be able to receive further accreditation status. YOQI is quickly growing and we are in the process of publishing and making YOQI a well known qigong style.
WHAT WOULD THE NEXT BE STEP AFTER I AM A CERTIFIED YOQI TEACHER?
You will be certified to teach YOQI at yoga studios, healing centers, private, spas etc... In the Teacher Training Immersion we talk about how to structure a business and build your brand as a teacher. Private coaching sessions by Marisa are also available for your personal branding, how to make videos, take photos, social media, travel to teach, set up your business etc...
